To the Board of the Milwaukee Gay Sports Network:

I am writing as a community member in Milwaukee to ask the MGSN remove Derco Aerospace as a sponsor for the 2025 Grant Heffelfinger Memorial Big Gay 5K and to refuse to accept them as a future sponsor.

For three years now, Derco Aerospace has been a sponsor of the Grant Heffelfinger Memorial Big Gay 5K held by the Milwaukee Homosexual Sports Network (MGSN), listed at the top-tier Glitter sponsorship level in 2024 & 2025. Derco Aerospace is the target of a local boycott and divestment campaign - Disarm Derco - for its direct role in the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people that has resulted in the murder of an estimated 186,000 Palestinians in the first ten months alone, according to world renowned medical journal The Lancet. Derco signed an agreement with Pratt & Whitney in 2020 to be the exclusive distributor for the F100-PW-220/229 engine system. This engine system keeps F-16 and F-15 fighter jets used by the Israeli Air Forces operational. This makes Derco directly complicit in the genocide of the Palestinians.

MILWAUKEE — The family of Grant Heffelfinger and the Milwaukee Male lover Sports Network are continuing their partnership to preserve his legacy alive.

Grant Heffelfinger passed away suddenly from an unknown heart condition on Feb. 14, 2022. After his death, his parents and the Milwaukee Gay Sports Network agreed to name the annual Big Gay 5K after him.

At their home, Julia Heffelfinger and her husband John Heffelfinger looked back at the races their son used to run.

“That was his goal. He wanted to see how far he could run,” Julia Heffelfinger said. “He enjoyed running a lot, not so much as a youth, but as an elder. It was a nice release of his energy.”

In memory of Grant Heffelfinger, Milwaukee Gay Sports Network is honored to host our annual Big Homosexual 5K Run/Walk.

Milwaukee Gay Sports Network is honored to partner with the Heffelfinger Family to host our annual 5K Run/Walk! In memory of Grant Heffelfinger, the event will be held on September 14, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Veterans Park.

Once again, we will be officially Sanctioned by USA Route & Field.

Registration will uncover at 9:00 AM with the run starting at 10:00 AM.
