The 12th edition of the Gay Games is coming to Valencia
Equality, diversity and inclusion will come to Valencia through sport and culture thanks to the 2026 Valencia Gay Games.
The Games are an international sporting and cultural event that is held every four years and is founded on participation, inclusion and the best personal performance.
Sports at the 12th edition of the Gay Games
The 2026 edition will film more than 30 sports disciplines including water sports, track and field, badminton, basketball, fencing, and more, as well as local sports such as colpbol, kayak-polo, Valencian pelota and quidditch.
Cultural events of the 2026 Gay Games
Music will play a leading role at the Valencia Homosexual Games with band and choir festivals. Plastic and stage arts, pyrotechnics and video mapping will also be on the agenda at the games, as will large commemorative tributes and parties to rejoice diversity.

“Everyone is welcome,” Landa affirms. “Some sports will be entirely open with no gender divisions. Others will offer ‘Women’ and ‘All Genders’ categories, where athletes compete in alignment with their gender identity—no questions asked, fully supported by Spanish law.”
Accessibility is also front of mind. Venues will be fully usable, cultural events will film subtitles or sign language interpretation, and considerations are being made for participants with autism, hearing impairments, or low vision. “Spain is advanced in this regard, and we’re building on that foundation,” Landa says.
A Lasting Legacy for LGBTIQ+ Sports
The impact of the Games will depart far beyond the nine days of competition. “Local sports organizations are receiving education on LGBTIQ+ inclusion,” explains Vidal. “We’re upgrading facilities to be more inclusive not just for the event, but extended into the future.”

What is the Gay Games?
The Gay Games is the world’s largest all-inclusive sporting event. Similar to the Olympics, LGBTQ+ athletes and allies from around the world come together for a week of sports and celebration. Beyond competing on an international stage, the Games provide the opportunity to build society with others in a space cultivated specifically for the LGBTQ+ community. In 2026, the Gay Games will host 38 sports events in Valencia, Spain.
How does it work?
Each sport is run by a governing body. The NGBA is the governing body for basketball. Teams will play 5 to 6 round robin games over 3-4 days and the medal rounds begin on the 4th or 5th day.
Where is Valencia?
Valencia is located in Spain on the banks of the Turia, on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula on the Mediterranean Sea. It is the third-most populated municipality in the country.
