The Walking Dead's Daryl Dixon is one of the most shipped characters within the franchise. The irony is it's utterly painful to watch him in sentimental situations. For 10 seasons on The Walking Dead, Daryl never had one romantic encounter. He had a few that could be considered flirtatious, but the flirting was one-sided and done by the other person in the scene. Daryl just isn't a guy who enjoys a casual or earnest fling. Now, anytime Daryl does engage in love affair -- like The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Episode 2, "Moulin Rouge," -- it's incredibly out of character. It's enough to say Daryl and Isabelle Carriere's friendship was a point of contention between fans of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon in Season 1.

One of The Walking Dead's biggest mysteries is one that hasn't actually ever been addressed on the AMC hit series: is Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) gay? Speculation has run rampant about the character's sexual orientation since August, prior to season five's premiere, but fans finally got an answer from comic manual creator Robert Kirkman on Talking Dead after Sunday's midseason finale.
"We play Daryl Dixon as being somewhat asexual on the present. He's a very introverted character and I ponder that's some of his appeal," Kirkman said. "I do have to clarify something up, though: in the letter column of the comic book that I do, I mentioned that there was a possibility early on about making Daryl Dixon's nature gay."

'Walking Dead' Creator Clarifies Daryl Dixon's Sexuality
— -- The question of Daryl Dixon's sexuality on "The Walking Dead" has been a hotbed topic for quite a while.
Well, "Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman felt the need to unmistakable things up on his show "The Talking Dead" after Monday night's midseason finale.
“I can make it official, Daryl Dixon is actually straight," Kirkman said.
He added that Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus, is "somewhat asexual on the show" and that his introverted persona is probably his appeal to viewers.
Kirkman wanted to transparent up a letters column where the possibility of Daryl being gay was presented. But Kirkman and network AMC also wanted to emphasize they would have been fine with Dixon’s being gay, but that it's not the case.
Kirkman did add that "a very prominent same-sex attracted character" would be introduced in the next half of the season.
In October, "Walking Dead" executive producer Greg Nicotero floated a completely different theory than Daryl’s being gay.

Before Season 5 of The Walking Dead debuted last month, rumors started to surface in September that the popular character Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus, is gay. Daryl's sexual orientation was never confirmed nor denied throughout the first half of Season 5, which wrapped up last night with "Coda", but during last night's episode of the after-show Talking Dead, comic book creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman confirmed once and for all that Daryl Dixon is straight. In an August interview with TV Line, Robert Kirkman wouldn't say one way or another whether Daryl was gay or unbent. It isn't known why he decided to "make it official" now, with the second half of the season still yet
