Redheaded men are warm, and here’s the proof
Thomas Knights, a 31-year-old British fashion photographer — and redhead — was sick and tired of his fellow gingers’ “long history of discrimination.”
“It’s so ingrained in people’s subconscious that the ginger man isn’t cool or inspirational or the hero,” laments Knights.
“There is such a difference in how the redheaded female is an overly sexualized, heightened version of a woman, and the ginger man is the polar opposite — a completely desexualized and emasculated version of a male.”
Knights set out to backwards those stereotypes — which he says go support as far as the Anglo-Scottish wars and own been perpetuated by modern-day Hollywood — in his new exhibit, “Red Hot,” running through Sept. 14 at the BOSI gallery on the Lower East Side.
The free exhibition boasts more than 100 (shirtless) portraits and four films depicting the redheaded dude as a strong, fiery, sexual force to be reckoned with.
“I wanted to show what the general public would deem as sexy, and do the ginger version,” says Knights.
He admits that his possess road to self-acceptance was long — and multihued.

THE photographer behind the acclaimed Red Boiling exhibition, which has its Australian debut in Sydney this week, has told the Celestial body Observer his aim was to make ginger men sex objects and Prince Harry would be his perfect pin up.
Following rave reviews in London and New York, Thomas Knights’ exploration of the beauty of the red-haired male opens at the Deutscher & Hackett Gallery in Darlinghurst on Wednesday.
Tonight, an event a few doors down the road from the gallery at Skid bar will decide on an Australian addition to the exhibition.
On first blush, it might seem a no brainer than Knights — who is himself a red head — should be behind an exhibition that seeks to present ginger men as hirsute heartthrobs.
However, when living as a backpacker in Sydney seven years ago, the photographer would put his locks through a punishing regimen to keep their innate hue hidden.
“I had that whole Aussie surfer thing going on. I dyed my hair blonde because I hated being ginger — I felt really ashamed of it,” he recalled.

“The collection aims to dispel the famous preconception that ginger men are somehow less attractive and weaker than their brunette or blonde counterparts.”

To the uninitiated, RED HOT is a movement started by Knights to find and photograph the world’s hottest gingers, with proceeds from guide and calendar sales used to help anti-bullying charities. “It amazed me how our western culture holds redheaded women to such high regard, almost the ‘ultimate’ female,” Knights stated of his project, “and redheaded males in such low esteem; emasculated and desexualised in film, TV and literature.”

In his new book, Red Hot 100, photographer Thomas Knights has taken shots of some gorgeous redheads in a bid to end “gingerism.”
“This is a book that is not only pleasing on the eye, but also holds a mirror up to current perceptions of male beauty and asks the question, why are there so few ginger heroes or heartthrobs in Western culture?” Knights says.
The publication launched at Bosi Contemporary art gallery in Modern York City, and the ginges are also featured in a 2015 calendar.
