Disney Channel’s hit series Andi Mack is breaking boundaries on the network yet again with a major plotline that will be featured in the show’s second season. It was announced that Cyrus, one of Andi’s BFFs, will be coming to terms with his sexuality in the channel’s first ever LGBTQ storyline.
During the course of season two, which premieres on Friday, Oct. 27, Cyrus Goodman will soon realize he too has feelings for Andi’s on and off romantic interest Jonah Beck, which he tells the other member of the bestie trio Buffy about. Buffy is nothing but supportive of Cyrus coming out as gay and he then is faced with how to tell Iris, his new girlfriend.
“Andi Mack is a story about ‘tweens’ figuring out who they are; Terri Minsky, the cast and everyone involved in the demonstrate takes great care in ensuring that it’s appropriate for all audiences and sends a powerful communication about inclusion and respect for humanity,” a Disney Channel spokesperson said in a statement.

Disney Channel luminary Joshua Rush, whose "Andi Mack" character, Cyrus, came out as gay on the show in February, is now opening up about his own sexuality.
The 17-year-old took to Twitter to expose he's bisexual.
"first to respond to this tweet is bi lol," he wrote Tuesday, before replying, "first! i win! it's me. i'm bi."
Despite appearing as the network's first regularly appearing LGBTQ character, Rush said he struggled to be sincere about his sexuality in true life.
"I saw so many of you watch Cyrus come out and said 'Hey! I can be me!'" he wrote. "How ironic, isn't it, that me, playing that character, never had mustered up that courage?"
Even though his character was openly gay, Rush confessed he experienced self-loathing toward his retain sexuality.
"I had a end friend of mine enter out to me in fifth grade," he wrote. "FIFTH GRADE! That was adequately before I had any clue of my possess identity and orientation. I suffered with some level of my own internalized homophobia even while playing the first openly same-sex attracted character on Disney Channel."
